Just a Reminder...
By:Aviwe Ndyaluvane

Do not forget to catch the MTN SAMA Awards on SABC1 tomorrow at 8:30pm. Likewise, the yellow carpet is at 6:30pm. Trust me you would not want to miss it, because it is coming out LIVE this year for the first time. No more televised edited footage; this time you get to experience it live as it happens-no edited out footage of performance hiccups that you only get to read about in tabloid newspapers and magazines. If you happen to miss it, you can always check my blog for updates-for free =D.

Secondly, it is my birthday tomorrow; the 1st of May. I am turning 20; not that I can feel any maturity i.e. growth wise- I have always had the same height since grade9. Additionally, people that I meet after not having contact with them for a while always say "you look just like the last time I last saw...you haven't changed one bit." Anyway, as the saying goes "maturity is determined by the decisions one takes".
Lastly, I hope everyone had a "right" day last friday on Freedom Day.

Suggested Read...

By; Aviwe Ndyaluvane

I have recently signed in as a member for Divas Inc. It is a very interesting online magazine; it features popular celebrities (most specifically female celebrities). You get features on Minnie Dlamini, Boity, The YFM twins, Terry Pheto, Dj Zintle, Katlego Danke, just to name a few. I know what you are thinking right now..."what's so interesting with reading about the same people over and over again." But, to just clear the mist; when I read the interviews I felt like I was present when they were interviewed. Secondly, they ask open ended questions; not those typical yes or no questions. Likewise, they include non verbal gestures that they project while being interviewed; making the article interesting and "alive". Nothing bores me than reading an article with only words being written, and little or no effort given to make the story alive. Most importantly, the magazine focuses on uplifting and inspiring young women; you not only read about them "brag about how awesome their lives are", but you get to know how much effort, struggles and endurance they had to put to get their lives to be where they are today. For example, Boity had to quit her final year in varsity because she could not pay her tuition fees, Terry Pheto grew up in a shack in Vaal et cetera; however, they managed to pull through from such situations. It is indeed a great read; here's their link  http://www.divasinc.co.za .

Me Time

A woman's crown of glory
By: Aviwe Ndyaluvane

 It doesn't have a 3D view, because i took.

This past weekend I had the thrill of changing my hairstyle, and I know every woman envies me, because there's nothing more that we like than having our hair 'titivated'.
Because I am both a vintage lover and a self-proclaimed trend-setter, I opted for a good old braided fringe. I must have taken you to them good old days, because we all had those when we were young. Moreover, I did not change much of the hairstyle, because I wanted something different in our modern society. So, I have candle burnt my braids at the edges as was done back in the 1990's.

The best part is that it didnot cost me much, as I had my friend, Nelly, braid me in the comfort of my own home; well in her bedroom to be quite frank-we live in a commune. Eventhough I was quite a b*tch in the begining, the end product came out stunningly and satisfactory. Ooh! Did I mention she had me cut my afro-dreadlocks (wipes tears). Surprisely, my friend, Nasiphi, claims that I look cute in short hair. So, after i get rid of this style I will be showcasing another one- with no expenses paid (pouts). But then wait! You guys know my next move now...

For chic hairstyles, checkout this link

there are more than a hundred hairstyles to get inspiration from. Here are my two favourites from the first ten i saw this morning.

Brad Pitt Proposes to Angelina Jolie with a custom made ring...

You probably woke up to the news or you slept on the news, either way, after seven years and six children, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are finally engaged. After great spectulation by the media Brad's spokewoman, Cynthia Pett Dante later confirmed the news saying "It is a promise for the future and their kids are very happy. There's no date set at this time." Furthermore, it was confirmed that Robert Procop did indeed design an engagement ring for Angelina Jolie in collaboration with Brad Pitt.

Congratulations to Bradangelina... This was, however, not other people's initial thought after they heard the news last night. Which is understandable, because the pair had been together for too long, it is only natural to assume that they had been married a long time ago. I mean is there a time where you don't remember the two being a couple? Many have forgetten that he had dated Jennifer Aniston before Miss Jolie. Anyway to clear the mist, the two initially did not marry each other as they wanted Gay Marriages to be legalised in the USA. However, they still do support gays and lesbians; i suppose their love was too much suppress. Anyway what do you think?

PlEATED SKIRT TREND...

By:Aviwe Ndyaluvane

This week's quick fashion spot is on pleated skirts that are making a sudden trend and a fashion comeback.

Pleated skirts were most popular back in the late 1990's and I am sure that you probably owned one back then. Well, seems like you will own yet another one this season as they are making a comeback. One apparent reason for their hit back is that they are comfortable and easier to maintain. Arguably, they make a great fashion statement and cute dolly look that anyone can pull out.

With winter hurriedly  rushing in on us, it's quite clever to have a pair of wool-pleated skirts to keep you warm. They come in different length sizes i.e. from knee-highs and ankle-highs. Likewise, they can be rocked even better by adding your very own personal style to them, and they are avaliable in most clothing stores. Don't act like you haven't been told...go get your very own pleated skirts this weekend and be the first in your friends.

A BREATHE OF FRESH AIR...

In an exclusive interview in this week's blog, we hook up with Mtata's Finest, Wandise Samela, an ambitious UJ audiovisual communication's student and aspiring Film producer.

1.    Tell us about your background
I am a 20 year old, second year Audio Visual Communication (film studies) student at the university of Johannesburg. I am not from around this part of the country though. I spent most of  my life in the Eastern Cape, at Umtata. I grew up in a small family with me being the only guy amongst my two sisters. I came to Johannesburg in 2011 for educational purposes.  During my first year of varsity, I got the opportunity to join the SABC3 soapie,  Isidingo through my relationship with UJ Arts Centre. Through working with the production team of the soapie, I was able to gain insight on the television and film industry of South Africa. Therefore, campus film making society offered me a position as deputy chairperson . Today, I am a producer and presenter at the university’s radio station, UJ fm. I am also a partime supporting cast member of Rhythm City
2. As a child what did you want to become and why?
At first I had the hopes of becoming a teacher. This was driven by my love to educate the uneducated and change the ill-mannered souls in society. However, I realised that I could do this at a much bigger platform with television and media.
3. What's it like on the set of isidingo?
I always use the quote about how “the moments of happiness we enjoy take us by surprise. It is not that we seize them, but they seize us”. Honestly it was like a dream come true, I always wanted to be in a production, when Generations rejected me , Isidingo welcomed me and they groomed me.  Another  moment  I enjoyed was when I met the  cast,  I don’t wanna lie I went to the bathroom and  prayed cause it was what I wanted , to hang with them celebrities. I am truly blessed; I know a lot of people would die for my job or my life nje in general.
4. What do you look forward to most in your day?
I look forward to a productive day, because when I wake up my phone has already emails and SMSs, and I have to attend meetings, so I look forward to a productive day; no delays , drama or depressing news.
5. Besides your achievements on TV, what would you say is your biggest personal achievement and why?
My biggest achievement is being a second year student and having people looking up to me already, and I am respected. Secondly, making my parents and family proud; my little cousin told me last year that he brags about me at his school , I just laughed. At that moment I was so happy that he even talks about me at his school and my mom also brags about me at her work.
6. What colour best describes you and why?
White describes me, because what you see is what you get. I am peaceful and free spirited , I am also outspoken. White is transparent , that’s me, if I don’t like something, I just say it.
7.What can't you live without?
My Blackberry, I go mad when he is off! I even gave my phone a name hey! It's Tony. Secondly, my family, they are my strength, especially my mom; I have much respect for the woman.
8.Anyone special in your life?
Oh yes.. there is someone in my life, but it’s a distance relationship. I love it that way because I am too busy focusing on my career. So if she was in Johannesburg with me , she was gonna complain a lot..but  when I am in the Eastern Cape I make time for her.
9. What's the biggest advice you've ever been given, and who gave it to you?
It  was given to me by my mother while I was still in high school. Wathi kum "never pay attention to people who gossip about you or who bad mouth you , because the reason why they gossip about you is that you are a threat to them".
10.What's your style philosophy?

I am really not into fashion, but I try to dress my self in a good manner and look presentable. I like wearing jeans with blazers or rather let me say semi formal clothing.

Vintage clothing

By: Ndyaluvane Aviwe

I am sure you have been wondering why people are wearing old school clothes lately, stuff that looks like they had stolen from their mother's wardrobes. Well, to clear the mist...vintage clothing has made a comeback. Last season we were rocking the 80s look, and now we have taken another few steps back, as we are now rocking the 60s look.

One of the main reasons why we went back to vintage clothing is its fabric which it is made of; cotton, linen, jute and silk. However, the actual materials retro fibrics they were produced from are different from todays i.e. they were of  great quality. Vintage colour clothing consists mainly of beige, sandstone, khakhi, champagne, black, navy, powder blue, cappuccino, earth brown and amber. Furthermore, old school clothing that is dated between the 60-80s is called Vintage and anything earlier than that is called Antique.

The most highly recognisable and absolutely desirable is ofcourse those famous prints; coloured striped print on knitted cardigans pasely, the famous polks dots on the dresses, bunnies and ribbons and funny prints on T-shirts.

Rocking vintage clothing is easier than you think. Anyone who knows me knows I am a self-proclaimed vintage lover (though I am not biased as I do wear other fashion trends). The basic start is to go through your mom's old wardrobe or  what i normally do; go through her old photo album and spot anything i like, and ask if she still has it ;). Alternatively, you can purchase vintage clothing in vintage selling shops or garage sells i.e. there are great things and affordable things there.

Everthing in this photo is from my mom's wardrobe.

Because vintage clothing is trending, many shops do sell them, so owning a vintage item is not such a hustle.

everything in this photo is from MR Price.

It is important to note that not everything vintage has to be old and dull. Colour blocking fused with vintage clothing is trending as well. for example, you can mix your old mom's skirt with a bright T-shirt or bright pair of shoes. Additionally, you can fuse vintage clothing with an African touch.
